Deep in the forest was found the body of a man who was wearing only swimming trunks, snorkel and face mask. The nearest lake was eight miles away and the sea was 100 miles away. How did he die?

Deducing from the man being found in the forest, I reason that the man wouldn't have died in the lake or sea. One possibility is that the man lives in the forest, and one day he decides to take a dive in the lake. Unfortunately, he isn't a skilled diver and lacks proper equipemnt, so having dived a great length, he was oxygen deprived. He walks wearily towards his house, and then finally collapses on the ground from fainting.
The man could have died of anything apart from drowning. I think the man wanted to go for a swim in the lake (hence why he is wearing his snorkeling gear)but on his way there he died, and didn't make it to the lake.
The man was on his way to the lake, however in the forest he could have encountered with something that took his life. For example attacked by an animal, or bitten by a snake

he couldve been for a walk to find a place to swim but then realised he was far away from home, maybe he died due to panicking because he was lost
